The Writing Academy is pleased to announce. . .
"Let us be silent and listen to the whispers of God."
--paraphrased from Ralph Waldo Emerson
Writer's Weekend 2010 is all about listening to the whispers of God, and our contest this year shares that theme.
In either prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction, write anything this quote from Emerson inspires.
Yes, anything.
A sonnet. A psalm. An essay. A song. A children's story. A script. A blog entry. A series of tweets for Twitter. . . . .
For example, you might write a true story about a time when you heard the voice of God, perhaps through an unlikely messenger. Or you might write a poem about how you feel when it seems like God is silent. Or you might write a fairy tale about the only person in the kingdom who can hear the voice of God.
First, second, and third place winners will receive certificates and keepsake awards. Judging will be based on quality of writing, originality, and adherence to the theme.
The Writing Academy's annual writing contest is offered each year for members in loving memory of Marion Fairman, one-time Academy executive director and a writing teacher par excellence. She is remembered as a tough critic of student writing, but her famous red pen helped countless students become better writers.
