The Writing Academy is pleased to announce. . .
The Marion Fairman Writing Contest
for 2011
This year's contest theme is "Waiting on the Word." Our inspiration comes from Habakkuk 2:1-3.
Habakkuk 2:1-3 (The Message)
I'll wait to see what God says...
And then God answered: "Write this.
Write what you see.
Write it out in big block letters
So that it can be read on the run.
As we retreat from the world during Writer's Weekend 2011, we will be listening to the Lord as we write. But do you see the double meaning inherent in the words, "Waiting on the Word"? Yes, we as writers are waiting on God for inspiration and revelation. But at the same time, others are waiting to read the words of comfort, encouragement, healing, and nourishment we will write.
What does this Scripture say to you as a writer? Some questions you may ponder before writing your contest entry: How do you "Wait on the Word"? Do you find it easy to wait, or difficult? Do you ever envision future readers waiting on the words that God has given you to write? If so, are you encouraged by the vision, or overwhelmed?
You may enter prose or poetry, fiction or nonfiction.

Olga Williams is retired from forty years of primarily college teaching in Florida, Uganda (East Africa) and Alabama. A charter Writing Academy member, she served as the Academy's first writing director and developed their initial instructional program. She and her husband live in her small hometown in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where she says she has begun to find herself in the same position as the beaver that populate their beloved Beaver Lake: "It's just one dam project after another!" She's not sure if it's a boast or a complaint.
