What is the Writing Academy?

Write the vision
and make it plain upon tables,
that he may run that readeth it.
Habakkuk 2:2

J. Elton Trueblood

What is most encouraging about The Writing Academy is that it helps ordinary people to realize that they may have undeveloped gifts and then teaches them how to make practical use of such gifts. The Academy is outstanding in its practicality. People who are willing to try may experience revolutionary changes in their lives by the ministry of encouragement which the Academy provides.

a past Writing Academy speaker

We’re a group of professional and aspiring Christian writers from the United States and Canada who share a passion for telling the story of God’s good news to a hurting world.

Each year we meet for an inspiring weekend seminar of teaching, sharing, and hands-on workshops. We worship together and we learn together. One of the highlights of every seminar is the WAMS Showcase in which participants give readings of works-in-progress.

During the year, the Writing Academy offers writing classes by mail in a wide-variety of writing forms--including articles, short stories, drama, poetry, inspirational writing, basic skills, and independent writing projects. Our writers also have the option of being paired with other members of the Academy for peer encouragement and critiquing.

The Writing Academy produces two publications. Showcase is our on-line display case for writing by members, featuring essays, humor, poetry, short fiction, and devotional pieces. The Writing Academy News, published four times a year, keeps our membership up to date on what’s happening in the Academy and features some of our best writing.
